I moved to Margate to give my 13-year-old guardian a safe harbor and a fresh start. Life had other plans—my body fought back against cancer and renal failure. Attending dialysis three times a week is my full-time job now. I walked away from a long social care career in London, and the marriage I thought was a team quietly broke apart.

Building Cynthia's Brew (and bringing Afro-Caribbean fusion to local community spaces) takes grit. It’s about refusing to let a new town stay one-note. Cultivating community, sharing plates, and introducing bold, diverse traditions isn't just about food or events—it's about building a chosen family when your old one shifts shape.

So now at 55, I found myself standing alone, staring down an empty bank account because..

I spent my very last penny making sure Cynthia's Brew was 100% legal, certified, and officially awarded a 5-star hygiene rating.

I didn't come here to fade into the background. I came to bring bold Afro-Caribbean fusion flavors, soul, and a little piece of home to the Kent coast.
